Biography

The award-winning pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet has enjoyed a brilliant career collaborating with prestigious orchestras such as the Cleveland Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, and the BBC Symphony, under the baton of renowned conductors including Vladimir Jurowski, Gianandrea Noseda, and Vladimir Ashkenazy, among others. For the 2023/24 season, he is distinguished by a tour of China with the Philharmonia Orchestra, performances of Ravel with the Láhti Symphony, and Bartók's formidable Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Kyoto Symphony. He is also pianist-in-residence at Wigmore Hall, where He is dedicating a series of concerts to the works of Debussy, and has presented recitals of works by Debussy, Liszt, and Massenet in several major venues, including the Sage Gateshead and Hamamatsu in Japan.

Bavouzet has recorded a highly acclaimed collection of works, all released by Chandos. His series of Haydn piano sonatas has become a benchmark, as has his widely acclaimed album, The Beethoven Connection. His performances of Bartók's Piano Concertos, recorded with the BBC Philharmonic and Gianandrea Noseda, earned him the Gramophone Concerto Award in 2014. His interpretations of concertos by Stravinsky and Ravel have also garnered numerous awards. A great champion of lesser-known French repertoire, Bavouzet also brings to light composers such as Gabriel Pierné and Albéric Magnard.

Named Artist of the Year by the ICMA in 2012, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet is also International President of Piano at the Royal Northern College of Music.
