The Association
«Friends of the church St Cecilia of Acquigny»
was created in 2006 (attested in the French Journal Officiel dated November 11, 2006). It aims
« to discover, make known and renovate the St Cecilia church in Acquigny, Normandy, France ».
The association cooperates with the public, the companies and with the municipality of Acquigny. It ensures widespread communication to awaken conscience of the wonders of the St Cecilia Church, so that they will continue to illuminate future generations.
The purpose is, of course, to ensure that the flame of the torch of the principal earthly creator of this beautiful church, President Le Roux d'Esneval (dignitary and senior magistrate in the Normandy parliament, who died in 1788) will not be extinguished.
According to the historian Nicolas Trotin, in the 18th century President Le Roux d'Esneval subventioned artists and permitted the revival of Normandy art, maintaining permanently a beneficial collusion with the innovations of a capital which dictated its aesthetic and artistic laws. « This pious President managed to be a missionary armed with a trowel and a paintbrush. »
The association provides guided tours of the church every Saturday afternoon during the summer holiday period until the National Heritage week-end each September, and it organizes concerts of music 4 times a year.
Cooperating with the village's civic authorities, the association ensures the contacts with the French National office for Historic Buildings for defining what maintenance work is necessary, and the association consults the approved companies and/or people for the realization of these tasks.
The association develops adapted sponsoring by initiating publicity, in cooperation with the village's civic councillors, aimed at contributors and patrons. This activity is named:
